Sergeant,. 1st Class, September 20, 1918. Served at Camp
Wadsworth, South Carolina. Honorably discharged, March 20,
1919.
LANDIS, JOHN FULTON REYNOLDS,
Colonel, U. S. A., retired; Inspector General’s Department, May 1,
1917; Colonel, U. S. N. A., March 5, 1918, and Inspector General U.
S. A.; Council, National Defense Advisory Commission, 1917.
Advanced to grade of Colonel on retired list, regular army, April 23,
1919. Relieved from active duty, October 31, 1919.
LATHBURY, BENJAMIN BRENTNALL,
Entered as Major, November 6, 1917; promoted Lieutenant Colonel,
October 5, 1918, both in Ordnance Department, U. S. A.
Commissioned Colonel, Q. M. C., U. S. A., July 7, 1919. Served in
office of Chief of Ordnance, Washington, D. C., November-
December, 1917. On Staff of Brigadier General Marshall as
Representative of the Ordnance Department, December, 1917.
Served at various Ordnance depots in the United States. Still in
service, November, 1919.
LEIDY, JOSEPH, M. D.,
Entered as Lieutenant, Medical Reserve Corps, U. S. N. A., March
7, 1917; promoted Captain, October 1, 1917; Major, February 22,
1919; Medical Director, Department of Gas Defense, 30th Division.
Served at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Camp
Sevier, South Carolina, and Yale Army Medical School. Rendered
important service in Gas Warfare. Honorably discharged, December
12, 1918.
LEWARS, THOMAS BELFIELD,
Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, U. S. A., at Fort Oglethorpe,
Georgia, November, 1917; later promoted Captain, Field Artillery.
Attached to Field Artillery; duty at Fort Bliss, Texas, and in France
with A. E. F., April, 1918. Saw active service in telephone
communication work, at Chateau Thierry and St. Mihiel, in the
Argonne, and later transferred to 3rd Field Artillery, in Germany.
Honorably discharged, July 9, 1919.
LEWIS, DAVID,
Entered service April 15, 1918, as Major, Inspector General’s
Department, U. S. A.; saw service in France as Inspector 6th
Division, A. E. F. Attached to the Inspector General’s Office,
Washington, D. C., and Assistant to the Port Inspector, New York
Harbor. Honorably discharged, February 20, 1919.
McCOY, FRANK ROSS,
Major,Cavalry, U. S. A., March, 1917; joined General Pershing as
member of General Staff, A. E. F.,in Paris, June 24, 1917; promoted
through various grades to Brigadier General, U. S. A., commanding
63rd Infantry Brigade in France; Director General of Transportation;
Distinguished Service Medal with citation (U. S.); Officer Legion of
Honor, and Croix de Guerre with 3 palms (France); Companion Order
of St. Michael and St. George (C. O. M. G.) (Great Britain);
Commander Order of Leopold, (Belgium). Took part in Juvigny and
Terny-Sorny battles of Oise- Aisne Offensive, 10th French Army,
August-September, 1918; Argonne- Meuse Offensive, 1st Army,
September-November 11th, 1918; on march through Germany until
November 24, 191S; Tours, November, 1918,
